In 2000, most of the countries in the world came together to sign a declaration promising to improve the wellbeing of people around the world. Known as the Millennium Declaration, it had eight main goals, which are known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and those goals are broken down into specific targets. For example, with the first goal of ending poverty and hunger by 2015, countries are supposed to cut in half the proportion of people who have an income of less than $1 a day. In each case, countries have until 2015 to achieve these goals. Some countries have made significant progress. Only four years away, very few countries are expected to meet all of the goals, unless there is increased effort and innovative ideas. You might have an idea that could help a country meet the goals and save thousands of lives as a result.
